The end of the (financial) year is always a great milestone to remember to reflect; where have we been, where are we now, and where are we going?
The past 12 months have held some great achievements and highlights for PPB Technology:
TEAM: Our team has doubled in size since last year; welcoming Office & Logistics Manager, Jess Kelly, in January and Research Scientist, Dr. Raquel Rocha, last month.
Our Science & Operations Lead was also recently promoted to Chief Scientific Officer; congratulations Dr. Felix Weihs.
EVENTS: The PPB Technology team has represented CYBERTONGUE® at industry events around the globe including FoodPro in Melbourne and ANUGA in Cologne.
CEO and Founder, Dr. Stephen Trowell, presented at the DairyOlympics in Ankara and the DIAA awards in Victoria, where we were proud to award Highest Scoring UHT Milk to Lactalis Rowville.
Currently, we are excited to be showing off our brand new PPB Technology banner at the Annual Meeting of the IAFP in California, with upcoming outings at AIFST and DIAA NSW, both in Sydney in August, and FoodTech in Herning in October.
TESTING DEVELOPMENTS: We were approached by attendees at the aforementioned trade shows to ask if our tests can be performed on cream. We hadn’t previously tried tests on cream, however there was no reason our versatile technology couldn’t perform as effectively with cream as milk. Dr. Trowell did some quick preliminary tests that same evening and was pleased to be able to report back the following day in the affirmative.
We are always welcoming new ways to develop our technology and to value-add for our customer. Due to feedback from industry, including the above, we are working on calibrations for detecting AprX protease in cream; we have developed a new ultra-sensitive screening process for rapid detection; and we have an array of exciting new developments in the pipeline.

INDUSTRY POLL: In May we ran a poll to determine the best collective noun for a group of CYBERTONGUE®s. Unfortunately the results remain inconclusive with a tie between “Degustation” and “Wagging”. Further research is required.
SCALING & INNOVATION: Less than a year ago, in November 2023, we completed a new production run of CYBERTONGUE®s, and with half of our 2nd generation devices already in industry we find ourselves at the beginning of a new growth phase for the business.
We also redesigned our Pelican Air hard cases, reducing the size and weight; making transport easier for our customers (and ourselves).
WHITE PAPER: In November last year, we released our white paper on proteases and UHT milk stability titled “UHT Milk Quality, Shelf-Life and Proteases; What they are, how to measure them and what you can do about the problem”.

AWARD RECOGNITION: The hard work of all the contributors who made the CYBERTONGUE® possible, including the teams at AsureQuality Diagnostics, Tricycle and Xentronics, was recognised with three separate awards; Best in Class, Technology Platform Category in the 2023 ACT division AIIA Awards; Best in Class 2023, Medical and Scientific Equipment at the Good Design Awards and; Product Design at the 2023 Victorian Premier’s Award.
Our most rewarding and greatest win, however, has been being able to help our customers discover areas for improvement in their supply chain. We look forward to helping more processors and industry testing professionals diagnose their pain points and improve business processes.
