The Cybertongue® Company

17 Dec 2024: Moving Forward into 2025 and Reflecting Back on 2024

FIRST EUROPEAN CYBERTONGUE® SALE: Before the festive season truly kicked in for the year, we had an early celebration when we announced our first CYBERTONGUE® System sale to a European customer. This is our first sale outside Australia and New Zealand, and there are more European sales in our pipeline.
This customer is using CYBERTONGUE® technology to measure AprX to control their UHT milk quality and shelf-life. If you are a UHT processor based in Europe and want to know how this works, send us a message via the “Contact” button at the bottom left of this page.

NEW UNDERSTANDINGS ON THE CAPABILITIES OF CYBERTONGUE® TECHNOLOGY: We used to think that AprX protease would only be produced when free-floating (planktonic) Pseudomonas bacteria reached very high levels in raw milk. If this was the case, then UHT milk product shelf-life problems could be avoided by keeping milk cold and using it quickly. However, our customers have told us that their UHT shelf-life is often shortened, even when levels of planktonic Pseudomonas had not reached high levels.

Prompted by the pioneering work of Dr. Stefanie Gieschler, we realised that Pseudomonas biofilms throughout the supply chain could be another source of AprX protease. Over the past two years, we have seen the results of many AprX tests on raw milk from dairy processors. These confirm that very often AprX protease is present, generally when planktonic Pseudomonas counts sit well below the accepted threshold for AprX protease production.
What this means for UHT processors is that they can use our AprX protease test to detect and locate Pseudomonas biofilms in the raw milk supply chain. The worse the biofilms problem is in the supply chain, the more benefit you would get from this approach.

Much like finding a needle in a haystack, CYBERTONGUE® Technology can detect and measure a range of substances (analytes) that are present at very low levels in complex and varying food samples (matrices). The most effective way to find that needle, is to have a detection method that can very precisely discriminate the needle from anything else that may be present in the haystack; hay, weeds, sticks, stones etc.
In the case of CYBERTONGUE® Biosensors, we have engineered a range of proteins that bind only to our analyte of interest and ignore everything else in the matrix. As can be seen in the learnings we have made about biofilm detection, we are constantly discovering new opportunities for using this technology to find needles may not have even known to look for previously.

AGM 2024: The beginning of December marked our third Annual General Meeting. It was a great opportunity to take a step back and reflect on our progress and achievements over the past 12 months, and our plans for the future.
Supported by the team at the ANU Agrifood Innovation Institute, the event ran smoothly and provided our investors with exciting updates on what has been a hugely successful year for PPB Technology and our CYBERTONGUE®.

We already eagerly anticipate next year’s 2025 AGM, after what will be another exciting year bringing our technology to dairy processors and providing them with the technology to allow them to more easily manage their product quality and safety, while also reducing waste.

UPCOMING: We will be attending a range of dairy industry and food and beverages conferences and trade shows in 2025 where we will be demonstrating how our technology can support your business and quality management. However, if you don’t want to wait to find out when we will be coming to an event near you, click on the “Contact” function to send through a request to talk directly to our team.
